Mr. Norman William “Bill” Evans, 92, husband of Ada Hundley Evans and a resident of Onancock, VA, passed away on Sunday, September 24, 2017, at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in Norfolk, VA.
Born December 22, 1924 in Southside Chesconnessex, VA, he was the son of the late Norman Evans and Bessie Davis Evans. Bill was a longtime salesman for the former Watson’s Furniture, and Horne and Stauffer’s Department Store, both in Onancock; a member of Market Street United Methodist Church; and a member of Central Lodge #300, A.F. & A.M., and former member of Chesapeake Lodge #158 A.F. & A.M. in Onancock. Throughout the years, he was a member of Onancock Elks Lodge #1766, B.P.O.E., the Eastern Shore Yacht & Country Club where he enjoyed golfing, and several civic organizations in the community.
In addition to his loving wife, survivors include five cousins, Gerald Davis, Debbie Hardstock, Bobby Davis, George Davis and Gail Willett; his goddaughter, Cherry Marsh Tapman; and Ada’s family, Linda Pruitt, Mary Beth Phillips and husband Jackie, Diane King and husband Bryan, and Albert Parker.
A memorial service will be conducted from the chapel of the Williams-Onancock Funeral Home, Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at 2:00 p.m., with The Reverends J. Barton Weakley and Albert Lee Crockett officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Market Street United Methodist Church, 75 Market Street, Onancock, VA 23417.
