Mr. William “Bill” Stotz Harmon, 92, husband of the late Virginia “Ginny” Mears Harmon, and a resident of Melfa, Va., passed away on Thursday, June 23, 2016, at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in Norfolk, Va.

Born September 9, 1923 in Melfa, he was a son of the late E. Wise Harmon and Edith R. Stotz Harmon.  Bill retired from the United States Air Force, serving in the Army Air Corps, Pacific Theatre in China, Burma and India during WWII; worked with Economy Feed and Milling in Melfa; and was part-owner of a greenhouse operation growing plants and flowers.  Bill was a lifelong member of Melfa United Methodist Church, and longtime active member of the Eastern Shore Yacht & Country Club, where he greatly enjoyed playing golf and cards with good friends.

Survivors include his loving sister, Ida Lynne Wood, of Suffolk, Va.; and several nieces, nephews, and their families.  In addition to his wife and parents, Bill was predeceased by a brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Peggy Harmon; and a brother-in-law, Willis E. “Buddy” Wood, Jr.  The family wishes to express their appreciation to Tyshia Lilliston, for her care of Bill in recent years.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, June 26, 2016, at the Melfa United Methodist Church, with The Reverend Glenda Turlington officiating.  Private interment will be in the Mount Holly Cemetery in Onancock, Va.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Melfa UMC Building Fund, c/o Mr. Phil Lewis, P.O. Box 298, Melfa, Va.  23410.
