Willis E. “Buddy” Wood, Jr., 75, a resident of Suffolk, VA, passed peacefully at his home, surrounded by his loving family, on Saturday, July 25, 2015. 

Born November 11, 1939, he was the son of the late Mary K. Wood.  Buddy graduated from Onancock High School in 1958, and then entered the Newport News Shipbuilding Apprentice School, graduating in 1962.  He was employed by Newport News Shipbuilding as a Cost Engineer, and retired in 2004 after forty-six years of service, as a Master Shipbuilder.  In 2014, he became a fifty year apprentice graduate.  He served his country in the Virginia National Guard, loved the game of golf, and enjoyed playing at the Cedar Point Country Club.  Buddy adored his family, and especially looked forward to seeing his grandchildren play in many sports, and attending their games. 

Buddy is survived by his wife of fifty-four years, Ida Lynne Wood; his son, Darrell Wood and wife Sandy; his daughter, Laura Eure and husband Todd; five grandchildren, Jason Wood and wife Naioki, Justin Wood and wife Tracy, Megan Wood, Tim Eure, and Blake Eure; four great-grandchildren, Christian, Allie, Camila, and Bridget; and a sister, Mary Jane Schulte and husband, Frank.

Funeral services will be conducted from the graveside at the Mount Holly Cemetery in Onancock, VA, on Thursday, July 30, 2015 at 11:00 a.m., with the Reverend Dr. Keith M. Curran officiating. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Brain Tumor Association, 8550 W. Bryn Mawr Avenue, Suite 550, Chicago, IL 60631, or to St. Andrews Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund, 1885 Bridge Road, Suffolk, VA 23433.
