Mrs. Carolyn Duncan Rienerth, 82, wife of the late Thomas Earl “Tom” Rienerth, and a resident of Onancock, VA, passed away Friday, October 27, 2017, with her loving family at her side.
Born January 31, 1935 in Shelby, NC, and reared in Norfolk, VA, she was a daughter of the late Gladys Barrett Duncan. The beloved matriarch of her family, Carolyn was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who led a life full of love, commitment, determination, and faith. In 1976, Carolyn became one of the founders of Eastern Shore Rural Health System, Inc., where she later retired as CEO after dedicating twenty-five years of service to improving health care in our community. An active member of Market Street United Methodist Church for more than fifty years, she selflessly volunteered her time to both her church and countless organizations on the Eastern Shore. Carolyn never wavered in her convictions, which is a true testament to a life well lived, a life which will be forever celebrated.
Carolyn is survived by three children, Matthew Rienerth and wife Angela of Suffolk, VA, Mark Rienerth and wife Linda of Norfolk, VA, and Patti Rienerth of Onancock; sister, Jeanette Patterson and husband Jack; and brother, Jim Duncan, all of Shelby; seven grandchildren, Cherrie, Joe, Shalanda, Zack, Paul, Jason, and Stephanie; six great-grandchildren, Nakwan, Tori, Aza, Makana, Kane, and Anela; four nieces; and two nephews. In addition to her husband and mother, she was predeceased by her daughter, Pamela Rienerth Finney.
Funeral services will be conducted from the Market Street United Methodist Church on Monday, October 30, 2017 at 4:00 p.m., with the Reverend J. Barton Weakley officiating. Interment will follow in the Fairview Lawn Cemetery. There will be a visitation at the Williams-Onancock Funeral Home on Monday, October 30, 2017 from 1:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m.
