Mrs. Diana Phillips Atkinson, 48, wife of Karl Lee Atkinson and a resident of Wachapreague, VA passed away Saturday, October 31, 2015 at her residence.

Born September 11, 1967 in Nassawadox, VA, she was a daughter of George Custis Phillips and Josephine Leona Pivonka “Judy” Phillips, of Onancock, VA.  For many years, and until its closing, Diana worked as a waitress at the Owl Restaurant.  Over the last several years, she worked at the Sage Diner as a hostess and waitress.  Diana was a workaholic who very much enjoyed her job, and was loved by her customers.  She enjoyed going to concerts with her sisters, especially Duran Duran, Def Leopard, and most recently, Elton John.  She and her sister, Trish, saw the “Ghostbusters” movie seven times.  Diana adored her family, and was incredibly proud of her daughter, who served in the United States Navy.  Her warm smile and beautiful personality will be missed by all who had the pleasure to meet her.

In addition to her husband and parents, she is survived by a daughter, Alison Custis Phillips and fiancé, Justin Sapp of Chesapeake, VA; two step-sons, Travis Lee Atkinson and Beth Hemphill and their son, Travis Lee Atkinson, Jr. all of Melfa, VA, and Austin Lee Atkinson of Wachapreague; three sisters, Patricia Borufsen and husband Dewey of Melfa, VA, Emily Phillips, and Dani Bowen and husband James; and a brother, Bobby Phillips all of Parksley, VA; a nephew, Logan Sterling; and a niece, Joanne Phillips.

Funeral services will be conducted from the chapel of the Williams-Onancock Funeral Home on Wednesday, November 4, 2015 at 11:00 a.m., with the Reverend Jonathan Carpenter officiating.  Interment will follow in the Fairview Lawn Cemetery.  There will be a visitation at the funeral home on Tuesday, November 3, 2015, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.
