Mr. Edward Vaughn “Ed” Charnock, 70, beloved husband of Annette Pruitt Charnock and the late Henrietta Harrison Charnock, and lifelong resident of Tangier, VA, walked into the loving arms of his Lord and Savior on Monday, April 24, 2017.

Born March 29, 1947 on Tangier Island, he was a son of the late Vaughn Wesley Charnock and Virginia Lee Thomas Charnock.  Like all Tangier watermen, Ed lived for working on the water and there was nowhere he’d rather be than crabbing in the bay alongside his son, Jason.  He was a dedicated member of Swain Memorial United Methodist Church, adored his family and friends, and cherished his dog, "Jack," who was always by his side.  Although he was a man of few words, Ed could instantly fill a room with laughter.  He enjoyed hanging out at the oil dock, where you could often find him perched on his five-gallon bucket, in the middle of his buddies, cracking jokes until they split their sides.  Tangier will never be quite the same without Ed, but his legacy will live on in the many stories and the great love he shared with all throughout his life.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his four children, Kelly Wheatley and husband Paul, Danielle Crockett and husband Denny, Jason Charnock and wife Loni Renee, and Amanda Parks and husband Bruce, all of Tangier; his wife’s children, whom he loved like his own, LeeAnne Smith of Harrisonburg, VA, Brock Beatty and wife Marissa of Richmond, VA, and Travis Beatty of Wilmington, NC; sister, Shirley Pruitt and husband Wallace of Salisbury, MD; brother, John Charnock and wife Faith of Tangier; sixteen grandchildren, Ashley Eskridge, Erica Daley, Jeremy Parks, Jonathon Wheatley, Hannah, Joshua and Jacob Crockett, Ryker Smith, Kylee Parks, Alona and Gavin Charnock, Brynn Smith, Emilee Parks, Braxton Beatty, and Rahab and Jase Charnock; three great-grandchildren, Harlow and Oliver Eskridge and Jorden Daley; and nephew, Troy Charnock.

Funeral services will be held at the Swain Memorial United Methodist Church on Thursday, May 18, 2017 at 2:00 p.m., with The Reverend John Flood, Elder Duane Crockett, and Mr. Denny Crockett officiating.  Interment will follow in the New Testament Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at the church on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
