Mrs. Frances Marie Greene, 91, beloved wife of the late William E. Greene and a resident of Parksley, VA, walked peacefully into the arms of the Lord on Wednesday, January 4, 2017.

Born March 4, 1925 in Onley, VA, she was a daughter of the late John Thomas Hickman and Julia Marie East Hickman.  Following graduation from Onancock High School, Frances worked as a bookkeeper for both the former Radio Electric Service Company and her son, David’s, azalea business.  As a proud Christian woman, Frances lived for and loved her church.  She was a devoted member of Grace United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school for over thirty years, taught Bible school, was a member of the United Methodist Women, and until recently, sang in the church choir.  Frances loved to cook for family and friends, who happily accepted, particularly when her vegetable soup was on the menu.  Over the last two years, she was a resident at Riverside Shore Rehabilitation Center, where she shared her zest for life, her devotion to the Lord, and became well known for her card playing skills.  Throughout her ninety-one years, Frances wore many hats, though her greatest and proudest was that of wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Survivors include her two loving sons, Kenneth E. Greene and wife Jodie, and William David Green and wife Maria, all of Parksley; three grandchildren, Wes Greene, Bryan Greene, Sr., and Kelly Chaves and husband Derek; four great-grandchildren, Bryan Green, Jr., Tyler Greene, Ralston Chaves, and Bentley Chaves; and several nieces and nephews.  In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Evelyn H. Williams.

Funeral services will be conducted from the Grace United Methodist Church on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at 2:00 p.m., with The Reverend Robert B. Lloyd, Jr. officiating.  Interment will follow in the Parksley Cemetery.  There will be a visitation at the church one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grace United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 156, Parksley, VA 23421 or to Riverside Shore Rehabilitation Center Activity Fund, 26181 Parksley Road, Parksley, VA 23421.
