Mrs. Janet May Kovac, 78, wife of Earl Kovac and a resident of Leemont, VA, passed away Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at her residence.
Born February 7, 1939 in Piscataway, NJ, she was a daughter of the late John Lewis and Evelyn Williamson Lewis. While living in New Jersey, Janet worked as a secretary for the former American Bell Telephone Company, and later, as a clerk for a retail clothing store. In the early 90’s, she and Earl relocated to the Eastern Shore. Janet spent much of her time with animals, either volunteering at the S.P.C.A., taking kittens to local nursing homes to visit residents, or feeding birds and stray cats who visited her property. She was a devoted member of Onley Baptist Church, where she enjoyed working with the children and was always happy to volunteer her time.
In addition to her husband of fifty-seven years, she is survived by her granddaughter, Amanda Marie Kovac, whom she adored. Other than her parents, she was predeceased by her daughter, Denise Kovac; and her sister, Shirley Day.
Funeral services will be held at the Onley Baptist Church on Saturday, July 22, 2017 at 11:00 a.m., with The Reverend John Burr officiating. Interment will follow in the Parksley Cemetery. There will be a visitation at the church one hour prior to the service.
