Mrs. Janet H. Remis, 79, beloved wife of John Joseph Remis, and a resident of Quinby, VA, formerly of Ilion, NY, passed away Friday, March 20, 2015 surrounded by her loving family.

Born June 3, 1935 in Mohawk, NY, she was a daughter of the late John Clarence Hannahs and Mary Vincent Hannahs.  Growing up in the neighboring small town of Ilion, Janet and John first met while still in grade school. Following high school, Janet attended and graduated from Cortland State Teacher’s College. It was during this time that John and Janet’s life-long relationship would begin. After two years spent teaching in Ballston Spa, Janet returned to Ilion to complete her twenty nine year vocation as an elementary school teacher. Alongside teaching, her greatest passions in life were God and family.  A prior Eucharistic Minister, she attended both St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church and the Onley United Methodist Church, where she was active with their church choir.   Janet was a loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend.

In addition to her husband of fifty-five years, survivors include six children, Martin Paul Remis and wife Parichat of Hawaii, Mary Elizabeth Maynard and husband William of Quinby, John Andrew Remis and wife Vanessa Triscari-Remis of Prince George, VA, David Brian Remis and wife Karen of Topsham, ME, Janet Rae Getman and husband Alan of Pensacola, FL, and Ryan Christopher Remis and wife Sarah of Sacramento, CA; a sister, Judith Allen and husband Duane of Saugerties, NY; fourteen grandchildren, Whitney, Robert, Victoria, Kelli, Stephen, Serena, Amanda, Michaela, Jeffrey, Alexandra, Garrett, Gwenyth, Jacob, and Clara; three great-grandchildren, Nathan, Nicholas and Douglas; and six nieces and nephews.  In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a brother, John Carroll Hannahs.

Funeral services will be held at the Onley United Methodist Church on Monday, March 23, 2015 at 10:00 a.m., with the Reverend Charles W. Parks III officiating.  Interment will follow in the Fairview Lawn Cemetery.  There will be a visitation at the Williams-Onancock Funeral Home on Sunday, March 22, 2015 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
