Mrs. Jean Marie Kranich, 71, wife of Barry Charles Kranich, and a resident of Onancock, VA, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 26, 2016, surrounded by her loving family.

Born June 2, 1945 in Easton, PA, she was the daughter of the late Clarence Crouthamel and Emma Ida Van Horn Crouthamel.  Jean graduated Magna Cum Laude from Thiel College, in Greenville, PA, attaining a bachelor’s degree in education.  She taught chemistry and math to junior high and high school students for many years, retiring after starting a family, and she later worked as an office manager for the Easton Airport. Though Jean and Barry had been visiting the Shore since 1992, they made Onancock their permanent home in 2005, and became dedicated members of Market Street United Methodist Church.  Jean’s passions in life revolved around children.  A caring and devoted mother, grandmother, and teacher at heart, she never missed an opportunity to spend time with her children and grandchildren, or help any child in need.  Jean was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Accomack, volunteer for the Literacy Council, and a board member of No Limits Eastern Shore, was an avid reader, and enjoyed crafts.  Her legacy will live in on through the lives of her adoring family and through the many children whose lives she touched over the years.

In addition to her husband of nearly fifty years, she is survived by two children, Jennifer Avery and husband Steve of South Williamsport, PA, and Brooks Kranich and wife Rebecka of Easton; brother, David Crouthamel and wife Karen of Bethlehem, PA; four grandchildren, Nathan Lord, Olivia Avery, and Charlie and Ben Kranich.  Other than her parents, she was predeceased by a brother, Ken Crouthamel.

A memorial service will be held at Market Street United Methodist Church on Friday, July 29, 2016 at 11:00 a.m., with The Reverend J. Barton Weakley officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Intrepid Hospice, c/o Coni Chandler, P.O. Box 770, Onley, VA 23418, or to Market Street United Methodist Church, 75 Market Street, Onancock, VA 23417.
