Dr. Jeffrey Dean “Jeff” Ward, Ph. D., 57, of Onancock, Va. since 2004, passed away peacefully at his home, on Friday, July 24, 2015.

Born on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17, 1958, in Compton, Calif., and reared in Buena Park, Calif., he was a son of the late Floyd Ray Ward and Beulah May Whitford.  Dr. Ward received his Bachelor’s degree from California State University at Fullerton, his Master’s from Fuller Theological Seminary, and his Ph. D. from Fuller School of Psychology in Los Angeles, Calif.

Jeff was a Licensed Clinical Psychologist with Christian Psychotherapy Services.  His patients will fondly remember him as a caring, concerned counselor, often placing the welfare of others above his own.

Survivors include a brother, Gary Ray Ward and his wife Ruth, and two nieces, Kristen Tate and her husband Kyle, and Cara Jackson and her husband Jeramy, all of Riverside, Calif.; a nephew, Kenneth Ward and his wife Colleen, of Tampa, Fla.; and great-nieces and nephews, Evelyn Jackson, Lindsey and Julia Tate, Rory, Ronan and Liam Ward, and Owen Jackson.

Jeff will be remembered by his friends and neighbors, as a kind, compassionate and soft-spoken man, who enjoyed good conversation and a fine cigar on the porch.

In his spare time, Jeff enjoyed writing, history, woodworking, painting, sailing and pets, giving a home to several cats.  His three cats, Snickers, Smoky, and Peanut, are at the Eastern Shore Regional Animal Control in Melfa, Va.  Anyone interested in the possibility of adoption, should inquire at (757) 787-7091.

A memorial service celebrating Jeff’s life, will be held at the Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Onancock, at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 1, 2015, with The Reverend Cameron Randle officiating.  The celebration will continue following the service, at The Blarney Stone Pub.  A service will be planned in California at a later date.

Memorial donations may be made to the Eastern Shore SPCA, PO Box 164, Onley, Va.  23418, www.shorespca.com.
