Mrs. Katherine Birch Hickman, 97, wife of the late Louie Wilgus Hickman, of Melfa, VA, passed away Tuesday, November 7, 2017 at Heritage Hall Healthcare, in Nassawadox, VA.

Born December 13, 1919 in Chester, PA, she was a daughter of the late Moe Birch and Lorraine Birch.  Mrs. Hickman was a loving and caring wife and mother, who proudly devoted her life to providing a nurturing, Christian home for her family.  She was a longtime member of Hollies Baptist Church, a self-taught pianist, loved dancing and acting, and enjoyed riding motorcycles with her husband, Louie.  Katherine will be fondly remembered for her pure heart and immeasurable kindness, which was felt by all who knew her. 

Survivors include two children, Randy Hickman and wife Ann of Melfa, and Diana Kay Annunziata of Newburg, MD; eleven grandchildren, Brad, David, and Stephen Hickman, Tommy and Kenny Mundell, Steven David, Dean Hickman, Jr., Stacie Arnold, Beth Price, Andrea Wilson, and Michelle Teasley; and several great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.  In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her son, Louie Dean “Deany” Hickman; and sister, Moretta Carruthers.

Funeral services will be conducted from the chapel of the Williams-Onancock Funeral Home on Friday, November 10, 2017 at 2:00 p.m., with The Reverend Jack D. Pruitt officiating.  Interment will follow in the Fairview Lawn Cemetery.  There will be a visitation at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. 

Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made, in Katherine’s memory, to Hollies Baptist Church, P.O. Box 7, Keller, VA 23401.
