Letitia Belle Somers

Mrs. Letitia Belle Somers, 76, loving wife of the late John Elwood Somers, Jr., to whom she was married for 58 years, passed away on Sunday, January 14, 2018, at Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital in Onancock, VA, surrounded by her loving family.

Born August 27, 1941 in Leemont, VA, she was a daughter of the late Harry Fulton Spurley and Ada Morris Fisher.  Letitia was a cafeteria worker for Accomack County Public Schools, serving many years at Bloxom Elementary School, and later at Metompkin Elementary School, and was a Methodist.

Survivors include her son, John Elwood Somers III of Bloxom; a sister, Reta Powell and her husband Ben, of Fruitland, MD; a brother, Terry Spurley and his wife Joan, of Horsey, VA; Reta and Ben’s dog, Tucker, and Terry and Joan’s dog, Fudge, who Letitia greatly enjoyed; and several nieces, nephews, family members and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted from the chapel of the Williams-Parksley Funeral Home, Thursday, January 18, 2018 at 4:00 p.m., with Mr. George Fulk officiating.  Private interment will be held at the Groton’s Cemetery in Hallwood, VA.
