Louise U. Sultan

Dr. Esther Louise Ullman Sultan, former resident of Bel Air, MD, passed away at her daughter's home on February 10th, 2017.  Louise was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan, living her early years in Ohio and North Carolina.  She attended Lenoir-Rhyne College in Hickory, NC, where her father was on the faculty as a professor of education.  She continued her schooling at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  In 1957, she attended Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD, where she earned her degree and the title of doctor of medicine.  Her specialty was internal medicine and pulmonary diseases.  She enjoyed photography, travel, reading and writing, as well as being an avid birdwatcher, artist and collector of antiques.

Dr. Sultan was preceded in death by her husband, Walter E. Sultan Jr., of 41 years at the time of his death in 2004; her grandson, Joshua L. Lilliston in 2011; as well as two sisters, Patricia Stewart and JoAnn Huggins.  Survivors include her son, Tom W. Sultan and his wife Marsha G. Sultan of Jacobus, PA.; daughter, Kathy L. Hall and her husband, Rick A. Hall of Wachapreague, VA; grandson, Aaron M. Lilliston, also of Wachapreague; brother, Robert Ullman and his wife Kaye Ullman of Raleigh, NC; brothers-in-law, William Huggins of Clayton, NC and Gordon Stewart of Wolcott, CT; sister-in-law, Perry Foster of Oxford, MD; and many beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted from the graveside at the Wachapreague Cemetery on Saturday, February 25, 2017 at 3:00 p.m., with The Reverend Robert Coniglio officiating.
