Rebecca West Mears, 85, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 10, 2017 at Riverside Shore Rehabilitation Center in Parksley, VA.  Born September 9, 1931 Becky was a daughter of the late Eva Ross Mears and Lloyd Thomas Mears.  Becky and her twin sister, Roberta, were the youngest of five children, including her elder brothers, James and Caroll Kay and elder sister, Louanne.

Becky grew up in Modest Town, Virginia with a mischievous streak that she would keep until the day she passed.  She had a quick wit and was always ready to tease.  She did not need to know you well to kid around with you...that is just what she did.  Becky worked in the restaurant business for much of her life and loved interacting with the locals and the people that would pass through.

Although Becky did not have children of her own, she doted on her nieces and nephews and she was much beloved by them.  She was well known for her generosity…and for taking the children’s side if there was ever trouble.

Becky also enjoyed attending estate sales where she and lifetime friend, Ruth Anne Watkins, would shop for antiques, jewelry and whatever else they could find.  Becky was born with a sweet tooth (or two or three) and even as her health failed, her eyes would light up at the sight of chocolates.  To the very end, she loved her sweets!

In addition to her parents, Becky was preceded in death by her brothers, James and Kay, as well as her twin sister, Roberta, and nephew, Bobby Fletcher.  She is survived by her loyal sister, Louanne Fletcher; nieces and nephews, Seala Fletcher-Kelly, Thomas Mears and Dru Anne Mears; sister-in-law, Ann Mears; great-nephew, Samuel Graham Kelco and great-nieces, Angela Kalaris Lee and Katherine Ross Kalaris.

Funeral services will be conducted from the graveside at the Modest Town Baptist Church Cemetery on Monday, February 13, 2017 at 11:00 a.m., with The Reverend John Cullop officiating.
