Mr. Robert Watson Wessells, 86, husband of Peggy Bundick Wessells and a resident of Modest Town, Va., formerly of Bloxom, Va., passed away at his home on Sunday, August 21, 2016.

Born February 8, 1930 in Bloxom, he was a son of the late Harry Thomas Wessells and Willie Mae Hart Wessells.  Bobby graduated from Bloxom High School; was a devoted member of Modest Town Baptist Church, where he was a Deacon for 57 years, Past Clerk serving 34 years, and Past Sunday School Superintendent; and was a Telemetry Supervisor with NASA, retiring in 1987 following more than 38 years of service.

His affiliations, club activities and memberships were numerous on the Eastern Shore, and included:  Central Lodge #300, A.F. & A.M.; Past Master of the former Parksley Lodge #325, A.F. & A.M.; Past District Deputy Grand Master of Masonic District 12; Royal Arch, Malta Commandery, and Scottish Rite Bodies; Eastern Shore of Virginia Shriners Club; Khedive Temple; Past President of the Sea-Bay Metompkin Ruritan Club; Eastern Shore Baseball Foundation, Inc., Hall of Fame Inductee in 2000; Past Worthy Patron of the Order of the Eastern Star in Parksley, Va. and Temperanceville, Va.; former Coach of football at Parksley High School, and coached baseball in local leagues for many years.

In addition to his loving wife of 66 years, survivors include his children, Barbara Wessells Brown and her husband Tommy, of Colerain, NC; Robert Watson Wessells, Jr. and his wife Tina, of Modest Town, and Carol Wessells Annis and her husband Ray, of Modest Town; his grandchildren, Thomas David Brown II (Jill) of Greenville, NC, Jennifer Brown Perry (Kenny) of Colerain, Robert Watson Wessells III (Mandi) of Accomac, Va., Bobbi Rae Annis Justice (Billy) of Modest Town, Laura Wessells Bloxom (Joe) of Accomac, and Michael Thomas Annis (Ellen Bolt) of Baltimore, Md.; his great-grandchildren, Ryder and Sawyer Brown, Matt Perry, Harper and Nora Wessells, Lyndsey Finney, Asher, Mackenzie and Mason Justice, and Trenton, Owen and Ethan Bloxom; his sister-in-law, Ellen Bundick Wessells of Modest Town and her family; and several nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Irene Wessells Adkins; and a brother, Harry William Wessells.

Funeral services will be conducted from the Modest Town Baptist Church on Wednesday, August 24, 2016 at 2:00 p.m., with The Reverend John D. Cullop officiating.  Interment with Masonic Rites will follow in the church cemetery.  The family invites friends to join them at the home, 16629 Metompkin Road in Modest Town, for visitation, any time after 12:00 noon on Tuesday, August 23, 2016.
