Ruth Lois (Olander) Mullins

Mrs. Ruth Lois Mullins, 79, beloved wife of Norman John Mullins, and a resident of New Church, VA, passed away Friday, April 24, 2015, at her residence.

Born February 17, 1936 in Queens, NY, she was a daughter of the late Rudolph Olander and Thelma Wilson Olander.  Married nearly sixty years, Ruth and Norman were inseparable from the moment they met.  Following retirement, they moved to the Eastern Shore where they have remained loyal members of Atlantic United Methodist Church, for twenty-seven years.  Ruth was a loving wife, a caring mother, and a devoted grandmother and great-grandmother.  She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, singing, and playing piano.  Her outgoing and kind nature brought joy to all who knew her. 

In addition to her husband of sixty years, she is survived by four children, Susan Flora and husband James of Patchogue, NY; Terry Merksamer and husband Marc of Brentwood, NY, Viki House and husband Paul of Atlantic, VA, and William Mullins and wife Mary Anna of New Church; seven grandchildren, Jimmy Flora, Michael House, Joshua Merksamer, Felicia Genova, Daniel Merksamer, Brandy Lynne Clark, and Rachael Mullins; three great-grandsons, Gage, Dimitri, and Zarek; and several nieces and nephews.  Other than her parents she was predeceased by a sister, Marie Pratt; and two brothers, Rudolph Olander, Jr., and Donald Olander. 

A memorial service will be held at the Atlantic United Methodist Church on Thursday, April 30, 2015 at 7:00 p.m., with The Reverend Rebecca McGee officiating.
