Mrs. Sandra Custis Millward, 55, wife of David Edward Millward and a resident of Painter, VA, passed away at her home, surrounded by loving family, on Saturday, November 25, 2017.

Born December 24, 1961 in Nassawadox, VA, Sandra was a daughter of June Bonniwell Custis of Craddockville, VA, and the late Thomas Allen Custis.  She was a graduate of Broadwater Academy, and received a BS Degree from Old Dominion University.  While at ODU, she met her future husband, who was immediately drawn to her beautiful eyes, among other endearing traits.  Sandra was a lifelong member of Craddockville United Methodist Church.

She was a thirty-year educator, most recently teaching 1st Grade at Occohannock Elementary School.  Sandra was a dedicated school teacher, having great care and compassion for all her students throughout the years.  She was involved in helping with the PTA whenever possible, and was often at school working, long after her students were dismissed, and often on weekends.  Sandra was very active in her daughter Ali’s extracurricular activities, often shuttling Ali and her friends to many sporting and school activities in “The Bus” (her Nissan Armada).  Times with her family, students and co-workers were treasured throughout her life, and another great love was the beach, the fresh salt air, and the serenity they brought her whenever possible.

In addition to her loving husband and mother, survivors include her daughter, Alison Custis Millward and her boyfriend Austin Sichling, of Virginia Beach, VA; two sisters, Cindy Custis Slate and her husband Sam, of Midlothian, VA, and Tammy Custis Batkins and her husband David, of Culpeper, VA; three brothers-in-law, Fred, Bill and Mike Millward; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her father, she was predeceased by her parents-in-law, Nancy Ann and William Newton Millward, Jr.

A funeral service to celebrate Sandra’s life, will be conducted at the Craddockville United Methodist Church on Saturday, December 2, 2017 at 11:00 a.m.  Following a reception, interment will be in the Belle Haven Cemetery.
