Mr. Sherwood Taylor, Sr., 89, husband of the late Mildred Dennis Taylor, and a lifelong resident of Bloxom, VA, passed away Friday, July 21, 2017, surrounded by his loving children.

Born February 17, 1929 in Bloxom, he was a son of the late Robert “Bob” Taylor and Celia Taylor.  Sherwood was a member of Guilford United Methodist Church and a lifetime member of Bloxom Volunteer Fire Department.  Sherwood and Mildred were married for sixty-six years, and together, they raised five children and owned and operated a grocery store and a seafood distributing business.   Sherwood, a true patriarch, devoted his life to his providing for, and taking care of, his family.  Though he will be greatly missed, his example of true commitment and boundless love will carry on in the lives of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.  

Survivors include his five children, Sue Taylor Evans and husband Marcie, Sherwood Taylor, Jr. and wife Tana, Greg A. Taylor and wife Karen, Cynthia Fellers Murgatroyd and husband John, and Dennis R. Taylor and wife Colleen; brother, Oliver Crip Taylor and wife Carol Ann; eleven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.  In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by his sisters, Molly T. Hurley and Hazel Marshall; brother, Harry Taylor; and grandson, Gregory Allen Taylor, Jr.

Funeral services will be conducted from the chapel of the Williams-Parksley Funeral Home on Monday, July 24, 2017 at 4:00 p.m., with Pastor Freddie Ward and Mr. Wayne Hart officiating.  Interment will follow in the Downing’s Cemetery in Oak Hall, VA.  There will be a visitation at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. 

Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to the Bloxom Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 132, Bloxom, VA  23308.
