Teddy Ray Crockett

Teddy Ray Crockett, 58, loving husband of Janet McCann Crockett, and a resident of Onancock, VA, passed away Monday, August 7, 2017.

Born March 6, 1959, and reared on Tangier Island, VA, he was a son of Sylvia Jean Parks Crockett of Tangier, and the late Robert Edward Crockett.  At the age of 21, Teddy began working for Penn Maritime, Inc., now Kirby Corporation, as barge captain aboard the “Yucatan”, and for the last twenty years, as lead tankerman.  Teddy was a member of the Seafarers International Union, and traveled to New York to negotiate union contracts; a longtime member of the Onancock Elks Lodge, B.P.O.E. #1766; and a dedicated, lifelong Minnesota Vikings fan.  Known for his generosity and loyalty, he was always willing to do what he could to help others.  Teddy’s gentle spirit and love for all will live on in his final good deed, sharing the gift of life through organ donation.

In addition to his wife and mother, Teddy is survived by his daughters, Ashley Virginia Crockett of Manassas, VA, and Courtney Elizabeth Parks and husband Matthew of Johnson City, TN; two brothers, Bobby Edward Crockett and wife Lisa of Tangier, and John Eric Crockett of Salisbury, MD; several nieces and nephews; and last, but not least, his dog babies, “Mac” and “Murf”.

A celebration of Teddy’s life will be held at the Onley Town Center, 25020 Shore Parkway, Onley, VA, on Friday, August 11, 2017 at 2:00 p.m.
