Mrs. Agnes Sterling Gillespie, of Mappsville, VA, passed away Tuesday, August 13, 2019 at Shore Health and Rehabilitation Center, in Parksley, VA. She was 101 years young.
Agnes was the devoted wife of Harry William Gillespie, Jr. and one of seven children born to John Major Sterling and Mattie Melson Sterling, all of whom predeceased her. She is survived by her nieces, Linda Stevens of Edgewood, MD and Lou Ann Crowson and husband Charles of Newport News, VA; and their son, Doug Crowson.
Agnes and Harry were inseparable throughout their marriage. Always dressed to impress and very social, they enjoyed going out on the town, especially Agnes, who loved to dance. The kindest of souls, Agnes was adored by all, both human and four legged, often taking in stray cats and dogs. When she wasn’t socializing, dancing or caring for others, you’d find Agnes relaxing while soaking up a little sun.
Funeral services will be conducted from the chapel of the Williams-Parksley Funeral Home on Friday, August 16, 2019 at 11:00 a.m., with The Reverend John Cullop officiating. Interment will follow in the Parksley Cemetery.
Memorial contributions in Agnes’s memory may be made to the S.P.C.A., P.O. Box 164, Onley, VA 23418.
