Mr. William Otis “Bill” Lazenby, 85, husband of Mary Rose Lazenby and a resident of Atlantic, VA, passed away Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at his home.
Born November 16, 1932 in Shady Dale, GA and reared in Onancock, VA, he was a son of the late Otis Persley Lazenby and Jessie Mae Mckenzie Lazenby. Bill proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, and would later retire from NASA, where he worked for many years as an aerial photographer. He was a member of the American Legion Chincoteague Post 159 and the Melfa Flying Club. Although flying was Bill’s greatest passion, he also enjoyed fishing and watching Jeff Gordon win NASCAR races. Known as “Mr. Fix It”, Bill was always tinkering with something, often to his family’s dismay. Bill cherished every moment spent with his family, and he especially adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His presence will be greatly missed, and his memory forever cherished.
In addition to his loving wife of 62 years, he is survived by three children, William Otis “Chuck” Lazenby, Jr. and wife Barbara of Atlantic, Mae-Lynn Lazenby Wall of Greenbackville, VA, and Terry Walker Lazenby of Atlantic; brother, Mack Lazenby and wife Susan of Auburn, AL; son-in-law, Paul George of Mappsville, VA; eight grandchildren, Dameion Lazenby and wife Ellen of Lynwood, WA, Lindsay Lang and husband Jason of Atlantic, Ross Lazenby and wife Niki of Clermont, FL, Ashlee Buchanan and husband Walter of Stockton, MD, Andrea Lazenby of Maryland, Tommy Wall and fiancé Angel Haynie of Pocomoke, MD, Katie Broadwater and husband Jason of Salisbury, MD, and Mason George and Taylor Fincen of Accomac, VA; thirteen great-grandchildren, Riley, who was his granddad’s special buddy, Breanna, Evin, Darcy, Éowyn, Liam, Xen, Devan, Addie, Bryson, Carmine, John, and Austin; and several beloved nieces and nephews.
