Carol Ann (Jones) Lauer of Homosassa, Florida, 77, passed away peacefully on February 21, 2017, at home in Onancock, Virginia, with her family by her side.

She was born in Point Pleasant, New Jersey, on October 14, 1939.

Among her many accomplishments, Carol was a life member and a former president of Fire Company No. 2 Ladies' Auxiliary in Point Pleasant, New Jersey.  She was active in numerous youth activities in New Jersey and Virginia, in which her children participated.  After retiring to Florida, Carol had over 6,000 volunteer hours at Homosassa Springs State Wildlife Park.  She was a member of the Red Hats Society, Citrus A's Model A Ford Car Club, Ye Olde Model A Club, and the Traveling A's Club.  She enjoyed traveling with her husband, family, and friends, and exploring historical places and hunting for artifacts.

She was the granddaughter of Nellie Bennett, an educational advocate in the Point Pleasant school system, resulting in the Nellie F. Bennett Elementary School being named in her honor.

Carol was predeceased by her parents, John W. and Roberta (Bennett) Jones, and a son David.

She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Ernest R. Lauer, of Homosassa, Florida, and Onancock, Virginia; her children, Ernest C. Lauer of Parksley, Virginia, Tamara B. Pruitt (and Gil) of Onancock, John W. Lauer (and Linda Hurley) of Onancock, Frederick A. "Fritz" Lauer (and Susan) of Parksley, and Jody L. Lauer (and Stephanie) of Kennebunk, Maine; her grandchildren, Jason, Hope, Kristen, Hartley, Severn, Chance, and Hannah; her great-grandchildren, Camden and Lucas; and many, many friends.

A memorial service to celebrate her life, will be conducted from the chapel of the Williams-Onancock Funeral Home, 94 Market Street, Onancock, VA, on Friday, February 24, 2017 at 2:00 p.m.  There will be a visitation at the funeral home, one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Carol Lauer, to Riverside Shore Hospice, P.O. Box 615, Onley, VA  23418, or to HPH Hospice, 12107 Majestic Boulevard, Hudson, FL  34667.
