Charlie Williams Obituary

Mr. Charles C. “Charlie” Williams, 90, husband of Deanie Parks Williams and a resident of Onley, VA, formerly of Onancock, VA, passed away on Tuesday, September 24, 2019, at Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital in Onancock.

Born December 14, 1928 in Machipongo, VA, and reared in Cape Charles, VA, he was a son of the late Dewey Hobson Williams and Ampire Belda Williams.  He served in the Virginia National Guard, was a member of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, lifetime member of Onancock Volunteer Fire Department, and was an Engineering Assistant for C&P Telephone Company, later Verizon.

A rock to many, Charlie was everyone’s ‘go to’ guy. He was the neighbor that could make just about anything work, and the friend that everyone came to for advice. While living in Onancock, Charlie was the neighborhood carpenter who was always willing to lend a hand. From repairing kitchens to roofing, his skill and generosity were limitless, though he remained humble and never flamboyant. Unknowingly, Charlie Williams was the greatest example of “I am my brother’s keeper,” and so many people will be forever grateful for his kindness and good will.

In addition to his wife, survivors include a sister, Ann Williams Scott of Onancock; seven nieces and nephews, Dana Carpenter, Carla P. Zuchel, Teena P. Haugh, Davis Scott, Stewart “Scotty” Scott, Jr., Jimmy Bennett, and very special nephew Stan Bennett; and special friend Mike Truitt and his wife Sharon, of Onancock.  In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a son, Charles Parks “Chuck” Williams; a sister, Elizabeth Bennett Massey; a brother, Edward Dewey Williams; and nephew, Tommy Bennett.

Funeral services will be conducted from the chapel of the Williams-Onancock Funeral Home, Saturday, September 28, 2019 at 1:00 p.m., with The Reverend Andy Cobb officiating.  Private interment will be held at Mount Holly Cemetery in Onancock.

Memorial donations may be made to Riverside Shore Cancer Center, P.O. Box 430, Onancock, VA  23417.
