Cora Press Obituary

Mrs. Cora Sue Press, 81, wife of Randolph “Rick” Press and a resident of Parksley, VA, passed away Saturday, April 20, 2019 at her home. Born November 15, 1937 on Tangier Island, VA, she was a daughter of the late John Lewis Parks and Annie Isabelle Thomas Parks.

Cora was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother whose unwavering love, quick wit, gullibility, and beautiful sense of humor will be greatly missed. She enjoyed word searches, was very proud of her Pioneer Woman collection, and looked forward to cooking meals for her family, but nothing brought her more joy than simply surrounding herself with loved ones.

In addition to her husband, with whom she’s shared 41 beautiful years, she is survived by three children, Tony Wheatley and wife Gayle of Sanford, VA, Patty W. Bergquist and husband Jimmy of Onancock, VA, and Torance Press and wife Melissa of Chesapeake, VA; her special granddaughter and apple of her eye, Annie Isabella Bergquist; granddaughters, Suzanne Reynolds and Karen Wheatley; great-grandchildren, Keira, Layla, and Micah Wheatly; step grandchildren, Clairese, Sarita, Donna, and Kevin; her beloved dog, “Sparkles”; and brother, Roger Parks and wife Ginny of Morattico, VA. Other than her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Gayle Parks Smith; and the father of her children and dear friend, Norman L. Wheatley.

A memorial service will be held at the Onley United Methodist Church on Sunday, April 28, 2019 at 2:00 p.m., with The Reverend Charles W. Parks III officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to Riverside Shore Hospice, P.O. Box 616, Onley, VA 23418.
