Mr. Glenn Chesser Fisher, 87, cherished husband of Ellen Gay Hickman Fisher and a resident of Atlantic, VA, walked into the loving arms of his Lord and Savior on Thursday, April 27, 2017.
Born September 4, 1929 in Atlantic, he was a son of the late Levin Woodston Fisher, Sr. and Mary Chesser Fisher. For most of his life, Glenn owned and operated the family farming business, alongside his brother. In 2002, he retired from the fields and began working for Tyson Foods for a few years. He was a lifelong member of Atlantic Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and sang in the choir, charter member of Atlantic Volunteer Fire & Rescue, and a beloved staple at his favorite hang-out, Ocean Deli. Nothing gave Glenn more pleasure than serving the Lord, caring for his family, and supporting his community, and he will be remembered for his love and devotion to all.
In addition to his wife of nearly sixty years, he is survived by their two daughters, Susan Shields Parks and husband C.D. of Atlantic, and Angela Mears and husband Denny of Wattsville, VA; sister, Betty Ruth Greenley and husband Ronnie of Atlantic; four grandchildren, Kylie Mears, Dustin Mears and wife Brooke, all of Greenbackville, VA, Laura Shields of Alexandria, VA, and Billy Shields and wife Caitlin of Garner, NC; and several nieces and nephews. Other than his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Levin Woodston Fisher, Jr., and nephew, Levin Woodston Fisher III.
Funeral services will be held at the Atlantic Baptist Church on Sunday, April 30, 2017 at 3:00 p.m., with The Reverends Richard Inman and Maury Enright officiating. Interment will follow in the John W. Taylor Cemetery. The family will greet friends at the church one hour prior to the service.
