Helen Zahn

Helen Zahn, a housewife, age 85, of Bushswamp Farms near Melfa, VA, died on Tuesday, July 4, 2017, at Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital in Onancock, VA.

The devoted wife of Andy Zahn for more than half a century, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Leontine Martin, and was born in Lachine, PQ, Canada.  Educated in the Catholic schools of Montreal with the Grey Nuns, Mrs. Zahn was a devout Catholic, and a cantor and choir member at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Onley, VA.

Prior to moving to Virginia in 1987, she resided in Bayville, NJ, and was active in St. Barnabas Parish, and the Berkeley Township Little League.  Mrs. Zahn was a veteran of the Royal Canadian Air Force, and the United States Air Force.  She became a proud citizen of the United States of America in 1962.

Mrs. Zahn worked on the family crab boat, delivering crabs to the seafood stores in the Toms River area, where she was known as the “Crab Lady”.

In addition to her loving husband, she is survived by four sons, Andrew T. Zahn, Jr. of Bayville, NJ, Thomas Zahn of Whiting, NJ, Alan Zahn of Roebling, NJ, and Daniel Zahn of Greenbush, VA; twelve grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

A funeral mass, with military honors, will be held at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, Saturday, July 8, 2017 at 11:00 a.m., with Father Rogelio Abadano officiating.  A visitation will be held at the church on Friday, July 7, 2017, from 2:00 until 5:00 p.m.
