She spent childhood years in both Salisbury and Seaford, Delaware.  She graduated from Seaford High School, and from nursing school at the Memorial Hospital in Wilmington, Delaware. She met her lifelong partner of 70 years, Graydon Hopkins, on a blind date, and never looked back. As a nurse, she worked as a Head Start program nurse, and a substitute school nurse in Wilmington.

She is survived by, and was very devoted to, her husband, H. Graydon Hopkins; three children, Randall Hopkins (Donna), Susan Pharr (Dan), and Stephen Hopkins (Donna); five grandchildren, Daria, Kate, Linnea, Lauren, and Tim; and four great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Peyton, Graydon, and Courtright.

Janice was a true ‘gentle giant’, always showing love and patience to those around her with the utmost inner strength. She loved music and theatre, reading, photography, and the beach.
