Josephine Huber Dahlke

Josephine Huber Dahlke passed away at the Hermitage on the Eastern Shore in Onancock, Virginia, her home since 2004.

The only child of Felix Artemis Huber and Alberta Bailey Huber, Mrs. Dahlke was born August 28, 1919, in Birmingham, Alabama.  Known by her family and friends as Jo, she was educated in Birmingham Public Schools, graduating from Woodlawn High School and Massey Business College.

During WW II she managed PX’s on bases while accompanying her husband who was serving in the Army Air Corp in Amarillo, Texas and Denver, Colorado. She later taught banking and finance, an enrichment program, offered in Birmingham area high schools and sponsored by Birmingham Trust National Bank. In later years she and her husband, as co-owners, managed - Thomas Steel Products for 24 years until retirement.

Mrs. Dahlke’s favorite pastimes included care of her beloved pets and time spent with her grandchildren. She enjoyed music, cooking, and gardening. Once a member and officer of the Roebuck Springs Garden and Study Club, she enjoyed arranging and bench shows.

Mrs. Dahlke was married to the late Hugo Theodore Dahlke for 61 years. She is survived by daughter, Cynthia Dahlke Hall and husband Richard Fuller Hall III of Accomac, Virginia; son, Wayne Theodore Dahlke and wife Annette Riddle Dahlke of Bradenton, Florida and Waleska, Georgia; and son, Ronald Hugo Dahlke and wife Mary Kisemore Dahlke of Accomac.   She is also survived by her granddaughters, Lea Ashley Shannon Taylor and husband Andrew Collin Taylor of Bethesda, Maryland; Erin Fletcher Hall and fiancé Michael Francis Shveima, of Charlottesville, Virginia; Dr. Jill Dahlke Stovall and husband Dr. Robert Thomas Stovall, of Lakewood, Colorado; Jennifer Colie Mitchell and husband Glenn Warren Mitchell IV of Atlanta, Georgia; and grandsons, Jeffery Wayne Dahlke, of Fort Collins, Colorado; and Bradley Allen Colie and wife Mandy Herring Colie of Peachtree Corners, Georgia. Mrs. Dahlke is survived by great-grandchildren; Harrison Hall, Josephine Augusta, and Virginia Drew Taylor; Juniper Juliet, Lilah Wren, and Beatrice Dahlia Stovall; Elizabeth Lauren, Kate Amelia, and Glenn Warren Mitchell V; and Parker Allen and Preston Rand Colie.

Funeral services will be private.

Memorial donations may be made to the Jo Dahlke CNA Scholarship Fund at the Hermitage on the Eastern Shore. This fund will support nursing assistants who wish to pursue a nursing degree. Please make checks payable to Hermitage on the Eastern Shore, and mail to 23610 North Street, Onancock, VA  23417, with memo designating the scholarship fund.
