On Monday, June 25, 2018, Lois Ann Martin of Belle Haven, Virginia, passed away peacefully, at the age of 75.
Born in January of 1943 in Ottumwa, Iowa, and raised on a farm near Hedrick, Iowa, she was a daughter of the late Glenys and Eddyth Thomson Rice. Lois Ann graduated from Farson High School in June of 1961, and attended Iowa Teacher’s College/UNI, until marrying William “Bill” Martin that December.
She assisted her husband, Bill, starting and operating many successful businesses. Her interests and hobbies included genealogy, home design, and gardening.
After her husband’s passing, she worked at McGregor’s Furniture Store in Ottumwa, and was a sales agent for AFLAC Insurance. After moving to the Eastern Shore of Virginia, she worked at Meyers & Tabakin Furniture in Onley, Virginia; and served as Secretary of the Town of Onley Planning Commission, and Society for the Preservation of the Onley Train Station (SPOTS).
Lois Ann is the mother of Dr. Susan Martin (A.R. Ashby, Jr.) of Exmore, Virginia, Timothy Martin of Sheldon, Iowa, and Dr. Callan Martin of Overland Park, Kansas; grandmother of Andrew Ashby of Exmore, Virginia; sister of Glenda Sieren of Hedrick, Iowa; and aunt of four nieces and three nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased two brothers, Lynn Rice, and Clarence Allen Rice.
A visitation will be held at the Williams-Onancock Funeral Home on Thursday, July 5, 2018, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.
A visitation will be held at the Reece Funeral Home on Friday, July 13, 2018, from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Her funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, July 14, 2018, at 1:00 p.m., with interment following, in the Mount Zion Cemetery, near Martinsburg, Iowa.
