Mrs. Mary Etta Howard, 82, beloved wife of The Reverend Robert Miller Howard, Sr. and a resident of Leemont, VA, passed away Friday, August 31, 2018 at Sentara Princess Anne Hospital in Virginia Beach, VA.
Born March 6, 1936 in Sanford, VA, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Roosevelt Riggin and Laura Mae Crockett Riggin. To know Mary was too love her. A devoted wife of nearly sixty years, Mary was the ultimate home maker and had the ability to make any home a loving environment where all felt safe and secure. She was honest, pure, and sweet, but always kept it real, never afraid to speak her mind on any subject. With her kind and loving heart, she was always there to open her arms and her home to any person, or animal, in need. If she was your friend, she was your friend for a lifetime, and you never had to question her loyalty. The lessons and morals she instilled in those she loved will never be forgotten and will live on through in the generations to come.
Survivors include her three children, Vivian Alaniz of Nassawadox, VA, Teresa Howard of Leemont, VA, and Mary Beth Pfaff and husband Chris of Cadiz, KY; ten grandchildren, Kristin Howard, whom she thought of as a daughter, Deanna Evans, Heaven and Robbie Howard, Jeffrey Whitman and wife Serina, Amanda and Gregory Howard and wife Sarah, and Tyler, Zach, and Ryan Taylor; brothers, Francis “Frank” Riggin and Vincent Riggin and wife Bettie; sister-in-law, Laura Riggin; lifelong friends, Roseanne and Kippy Moore; her dog, “Casey;” cats, “Enie” and “Kali;” and many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Other than her husband and parents, she was predeceased by two sons, Robert Miller “Rob” Howard, Jr. and Gregory Thomas “Greg” Howard, Sr.; brothers, Junior and Wayne Riggin; grandson, Trey LeCates; and great-grandson, Gage Barrett.
In accordance with her wishes, no public service will be held.
