Mary Jo (Savage) Martin

Mrs. Mary Jo Martin, 79, wife of Kenneth A. Martin and a resident of Melfa, VA, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 30, 2018 with her loving family by her side.

Born December 15, 1938 in Beaver Dam, MD, she was the daughter of the late Mason Paul Savage and Mary Virginia Taylor Savage. Mary Jo proudly devoted her life to her family, instilling in them her zest for life, love for all, and unwavering faith in the Lord. Married for 59 years, Mary Jo and Kenneth stood by one another’s side through thick and thin. Ken often referred to Mary Jo as “pretty,” which he knew would always bring out her spunky side. Over the last year and a half, she fought a courageous battle with cancer, and even then, her fiery spirit and quick wit never diminished.  Those who knew and loved Mary Jo will forever be touched by her beautiful spirit, never forgetting the extraordinary presence that was Mary Jo Savage Martin.

In addition to her loving husband, she is survived by four daughters, Tina Louise Martin of Onancock, VA, Pamela Lynn Runde and husband Dan of Ocean City, MD, Leslie Ann Lewis and husband Melvin “Sonny” of Onancock, and Vicki Jo Keating and Chris Stinson of Street, MD; nine grandchildren, Kara Dawn, Jake, Walker, Tyler, Kenley, Seth, Ian, Brittney, and Hunter; three great-grandchildren, Jamie, Ari, and John Wesley; sister-in-law, Carole Savage; and cousin, Sharon Burke, who were like sisters to Mary Jo. Other than her parents, she was predeceased by her two brothers, Taylor Mason Savage and John William Savage.

Funeral services will be conducted from the graveside at the Fairview Lawn Cemetery, in Onancock, on Monday, June 4, 2018 at 4:00 p.m., with The Reverend Curtis Lucy officiating. There will be a visitation at the Williams-Onancock Funeral Home on Sunday, June 3, 2018 from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.
