Paul Smith Obituary

Paul William Smith, 49, resident of Mappsville, VA, passed away at his home on Thursday, November 8, 2018.  Born September 21, 1969 in New Jersey, he was a son of the late Norman Carl Smith and Emma Marie Williams Smith.

Paul proudly served his country in the Unites States Navy, which is where his talent to fix all that is broken first began.  In addition to working as the maintenance man for A-Z Furniture in Hallwood, VA, he was always there to lend a helping hand to friends and neighbors.  Paul enjoyed hunting and listening to music, loved animals and children, and was an exceptional cook.  As a regular patron and beloved friend of Matthews Market, there were few mornings Paul wasn’t anxiously awaiting Patti as she opened the store, always greeting her with a warm smile and a “Good morning, Boss!”  Over the years, he would often prepare extra food to share with everyone at Matthews.  Paul had a heart of gold and his presence will be greatly missed by many.

Survivors include two sisters, Cindy L. Sawn and Helen E. Reighert, both of New Jersey; several nieces; nephews; great nieces and great nephews; and countless friends, including his Matthews Market family.  In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Lucille Estrada; and two brothers, Harry and Edward Smith.
