Paul Smith Obituary

Mr. Trueman “Paul” Smith, 89, husband of Ann Carol Smith and a resident of Onancock, VA, passed away Thursday, August 15, 2019 at Commonwealth Senior Living. Born November 16, 1929 in Silver Spring, MD, he was the son of the late Trueman Paul Smith and Elizabeth James Smith.

Paul served his country as a radarman in the United States Navy during the Korean War, and as destiny would have it, he met Ann soon after discharge. Together, they shared 66 beautiful years of marriage and made countless memories along the way. As a career salesman, Paul and Ann relocated many times over the years. In 1980, he accepted a transfer to Onancock as the manager of the Peoples Life Insurance office. An avid fisherman and outdoorsman, Paul quickly fell in love with the Eastern Shore and its nature. He especially enjoyed fishing in the bay and seaside waters, arrowhead hunting, and birdwatching. Paul was a longtime participant in the Road Scholar program and was credited for organizing volunteer groups for the Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge and The Chincoteague Field Station’s Marine Science Consortium. His sense of humor and quick wit always brought a smile to those around him.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by their son, Steven Paul Smith; and many other extended family members and friends. Other than his parents, he was predeceased by his daughter, Faye Ellen Wills and sister, Barbara Talbert.

To honor Paul’s wishes, no public service will be held.
