Mrs. Peggy Lewis Bundick Wessells, 87, wife of the late Robert Watson Wessells and a lifelong resident of Modest Town, VA, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, August 25, 2019. Born December 12, 1931 in Modest Town, she was a daughter of the late Edwin Hamilton Bundick and Margaret Barnes Bundick.
Peggy was a graduate of Bloxom High School and worked as a secretary for Accomack County Public Schools, retiring in 1994, after more than 27 years of service. A faithful member of Modest Town Baptist Church, Peggy rarely missed a Sunday and served as social committee chairperson for more than 30 years. She was a member and Past Worthy Matron of the Parksley Chapter #166 and Temperanceville Chapter #88, Order of the Eastern Star. Peggy adored her family and nothing brought her more joy than being surrounded by loved ones, all of whom will forever cherish her memory.
Mrs. Wessells is survived by her children, Barbara Wessells Brown and, her husband Tommy, of Colerain, NC; Robert Watson Wessells, Jr., and his wife Tina, and Carol Wessells Annis and her husband Ray, all of Modest Town; sister, Ellen Bundick Wessells of Modest Town; grandchildren, Thomas David Brown II (Jill) of Greenville, NC, Jennifer Brown Perry (Kenny) of Colerain, Robert Watson Wessells III (Mandi) of Accomac, VA, Laura Wessells Bloxom (Joe) of Chincoteague, VA, Bobbi Rae Annis Justice (Billy) of Modest Town, and Michael Thomas Annis (Ellen) of Baltimore, MD; great-grandchildren, Ryder and Sawyer Brown, Matt Perry, Harper and Nora Wessells, Trenton, Owen, Ethan and Watson Bloxom, Lyndsey Finney, Asher, Mackenzie and Mason Justice; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her brother, J. Hamilton Bundick.
Funeral services will be conducted from the Modest Town Baptist Church on Thursday, August 29, 2019 at 2:00 p.m., with The Reverend John D. Cullop officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family invites friends to join them at the home, 16629 Metompkin Road in Modest Town, for visitation, any time after 12:00 noon on Wednesday, August 28, 2019.
