Richard Mitchell Obituary

Capt. Richard Floyd Mitchell, USN, Retired, 80, husband of Mary McIhenny Mitchell and a resident of the Hermitage on the Eastern Shore, formerly of Virginia Beach, VA, passed away Monday, September 24, 2018. 

Born April 20, 1938 in San Angelo, TX, he was the son of Milton and Frances Holmes.  Richard attained a master’s degree in computer science from the University of Mississippi and proudly served his country in the United Stated Navy, where he later retired with the rank of Captain.  He was an avid golfer and loved dogs.

In addition to his loving wife of years, he is survived by three sons, Mike Mitchell of Hampton, VA, David Mitchell and wife Linda of Pungoteague, VA, and Jay Mitchell and wife Julie of Roswell, GA; and three grandchildren, Zachary, Hunter, and Cecilia Mitchell.

In accordance with his wishes, funeral services will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Southeastern Virginia Chapter, 6350 Center Drive, Suite 102, Norfolk, VA  23502 (or by visiting https://act.alz.org/donate).
