Mrs. Shirley Dean Berry Edwards, 83, beloved wife of John R. “Ronnie” Edwards, of Melfa, VA, passed away with her family by her side, on Saturday, October 27, 2018.
Born June 14, 1935 at the Berry family home in Gargatha, VA, she was a daughter of the late Millard Fillmore Berry and Hazel Powell Berry. With her husband and children, Shirley was an owner/operator of Tammy and Johnny’s restaurant, a well-known Eastern Shore eatery. Shirley and Ronnie opened Tammy and Johnny’s 52 years ago, remaining in the business until their recent retirement. She was a member of Market Street United Methodist Church in Onancock, VA.
In addition to her husband, survivors include her daughter, Tammy Lou Edwards Hickman and husband E.T. III, of Nelsonia, VA; her son, John R. “Johnny” Edwards and Wendy, of Parksley, VA; brother, Millard F. Berry, Jr. of Salisbury, MD; two grandchildren, Hunter T. Hickman and Bailey E. Edwards; three sisters-in-law, Melinda Edwards of Slanesville, WV, and Betty Belle Branch and Jackie Spicer, both of Onancock; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a daughter-in-law, Kimberly Renee Bailey Edwards; sister, Marian Berry Baker; brothers, Carwin Adams Berry and William “Bill” Berry; and sisters/brother-in-law, Beverly Bradley, Jill Godwin, and Bruce Edwards.
Funeral services will be conducted from the graveside at the Fairview Lawn Cemetery in Onancock, Saturday, November 3, 2018 at 2:00 p.m., with The Reverend J. Barton Weakley officiating.
