Sicky (Curtis) Hicks

Ms. Gladys “Sicky” Hicks, 74, of Hallwood, VA, passed away on Friday, August 16, 2019 at Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital in Onancock, VA. Born May 4, 1945 in Nassawadox, VA, she was a daughter of the late William Thomas Curtis and Lillian Poulson Curtis.

For many years, Sicky worked at the Moose Lodge in Nelsonia, VA, though most will remember her from the decades she spent working as a clerk at Matthews Market in Temperanceville, VA. Sicky graciously volunteered her time for the Bloxom Volunteer Fire Company when needed, served on the Hallwood Town Council for 18 years, was a member of the Nelsonia Moose Lodge, and unless ill, never missed a Wednesday or Sunday at Hallwood Baptist Church. She loved all animals, especially her dogs– Inky, Harley, Mama Bear, Pete, Shaylee, Nosey, and Boo.

Survivors include her three children, Angela Taylor and husband Greg of Hallwood, Pam Idoni and husband Mark of Salisbury, MD, and Larry L. Harrell of Kentucky; brothers, Clyde Curtis of Hallwood, and Stephen Curtis of Fort Lauderdale, FL; four grandchildren, Brook Taylor, who was the apple of her eye, Beckey Leonard, Savannah Vasquez, and Katie Snow; three great-grandchildren, Maddox and Gabriel Leonard and Isaiah Snow; special niece and nephew, Michelle Hinman and Tommy Bundick; dear friends and Matthews Market co-workers, Patti and Paula; and many other extended family members. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sisters, Bonnie Sue Bundick and Thelma Janie Jones; and brother, William Thomas Curtis, Jr.

A memorial service will be held at the Hallwood Baptist Church on Saturday, August 24, 2019 at 3:00 p.m., with The Reverend Danny Shrieves officiating.
