Aliene Joynes LeCato, 82, of Nassawadox, VA, passed away at Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital, in Onancock, VA, on Sunday, June 9, 2024. Born June 28, 1941, in the Georgetown, DE, area, she was the daughter of the late Alice Willey Messick and Arthur Messick.
In her younger years, Aliene spent time being a companion and caretaker of hospice patients. She was always willing to offer help to those who needed it, whether as a nurse or as a friend. She was a great cook and often shared her gift with those closest to her. She collected hundreds of cookbooks and would experiment in her kitchen. When she wasn’t cooking, she could be found in her garden. Aliene had strong faith in the Lord, and she attended Franktown United Methodist Church, until her health declined.
She is survived by three sons; two grandchildren; four cousins; a dear friend; and her poodles, Snoopy and Lady—two of her most adored pets. Aliene was predeceased by her parents, Alice and Arthur Messick; half-brother, Jacob “Buddy” Messick; and half-sister, Darcus Messick.
The funeral service will be private.
