Elizabeth “Betsy” Claire Rew, 74, of Stuart, FL passed away on April 17, 2023. Born on December 15, 1948 in New Jersey, Betsy was the daughter of the late William Wallace Teeple, Sr. and of the late Christina Regina (McDermott) Teeple.
She was a graduate of Bernards High School in Bernardsville, NJ and attended Clemson University in Clemson, SC where she studied English Literature.
Betsy was a beautiful, generous person who was fiercely devoted to her family. She was known for giving sage advice and for her ability to “tell it like it is”, but with a vocabulary that required you to look up a few of the words. She was able to find humor in nearly everything and had a quick wit that will be greatly missed. Despite any challenges she faced in life, she always kept her head held high. She was fiercely independent and raised her daughters to be, as well. In her own words, Betsy wants to be remembered as “a good mother, a good sister, and a good partner”.
She is survived by her companion of over 30 years, David F. Scully; her brother, Wallace “Bill” Teeple of Alberta, Canada; three daughters, Tina (Magathan) LeCato of Franktown, VA, Dr. Suzy (Rew) Lofton Bullis of Round Rock, TX, and Hyldie (Rew) Krebs of Chesapeake, VA; three grandsons, Michael Parks, Jackson Bullis, and Rhett Bullis; two granddaughters, Bethany (Parks) Parra and Allison LeCato; one great grandson, Hudson Parra; and one great granddaughter, Lilly Parra.
Betsy requested a private celebration of life with family at an Irish pub. Those who wish to honor her memory are invited to “raise a glass” and share a fond memory of an amazing woman who will surely be missed.
In lieu of flowers, her family invites you to make a memorial contribution in Betsy’s name to the Wounded Warrior Project at https://support.woundedwarriorproject.org.
