Betty H. Fitchett of Richmond, VA, formerly of Locustville, VA, passed away on November 10, 2024, at the age of 92.
She was born on October 25, 1932 on Chincoteague Island, VA to Edward G. Hopkins and Margaret Mary Connor Hopkins, both of whom predeceased her. In addition to her parents, Betty was predeceased by her husband of 49 years, Clarence Edward Fitchett.
Betty graduated in June of 1950 from Chincoteague High and in August of 1953 from Peninsula General Hospital School of Nursing in Salisbury, MD, where she received the Doctor’s Award for best grades.
Betty explored several aspects of nursing before settling into her favorite, occupational health nursing. She worked for NASA at Wallops Island Station, part of Goddard Space Flight Center, for 30 years.
In her spare time, she enjoyed needlework, reading, gardening, and traveling, especially with girlfriends to the beach.
Betty is survived by her son, Kenneth Fitchett (Allie); grandchildren, Paxton Fitchett, Megan Shaver (Craig), and Kelsey Fort (Chuck); and four great-grandchildren, Issac and Wren Fort and Mark and Emma Shaver, all of Richmond.
A private graveside service will be held at the Edgehill Cemetery in Accomac, VA.
