Betty Lee (Haynie) Pruitt

Mrs. Betty Lee Haynie Pruitt, 84, wife of the late Freddie Klein Pruitt and a resident of Onancock, VA, passed away Sunday, July 19, 2020 at her home. Born April 29, 1936 on Tangier Island, VA, she was a daughter of the late Robert Lee Haynie and Emma Hester Haynie.

A quiet, kind, and nurturing soul, Betty blessed the lives of all who knew her. Married for 60  years, Betty and Freddie built a beautiful life together, one defined by their faith in the Lord and love for family. Betty was a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend, who happily put the needs of others before her own. She was a faithful member of Market Street United Methodist Church and enjoyed cooking and preparing meals for loved ones, as she cherished every moment surrounded by family and friends.

She is survived by her children, Anthony K. “Tony” Pruitt and his wife, Sherrie, and F. Klein Pruitt and his wife, Tammy, all of Onancock; and Leigh Ann Chandler and her husband, David, of Salisbury, MD; sister, Margaretta Pruitt and her husband, Richard; and brother, Mark Haynie and his wife, Sharon, all of Tangier; sister-in-law, Lulabelle Haynie, wife of her late brother, Robert “Bobby” Haynie, of Tangier; grandchildren, Shanna Watson and her husband, Bradley, Brandon Pruitt, Kaylie Pruitt, and Drew and Emma Chandler; great-grandchildren, Brad, Lola, William and Waylon Watson; several nieces and nephews; and many special friends and neighbors, all of whom Betty was grateful to have in her life.

Funeral services will be conducted from the graveside at the Fairview Lawn Cemetery on Wednesday, July 22, 2020 at at 2:00 p.m., with The Reverends Albert Crockett and Heidi Bak officiating.
