Cheryl Hines deBeaubien

Cheryl Lynn Hines was born August 2, 1957, in Duluth, MN…14 months after her big sister, Donna Marie Hines, was born in 1956. Her Mom and Dad, Don and Bev Hines, and the two little girls lived there for three-and-a-half years. The family moved to the Eastern Shore when Don was transferred to Wallops Island, VA, to work for RCA through a contract with NASA, after working for RCA for four years in the Air Force. In 1959, Cheryl and Donna’s little brother, Mitchel Lee Hines, was born in Salisbury, MD. Through the years, the family resided in Pocomoke City, MD, New Church, VA, Mappsville, VA, and Parksley, VA.

People may know that Cheryl has battled cancer for over 10 years. She has always been strong willed—even as a child she would say, “No I won’t,” “I don’t want to,” and “You can’t make me.” She became not only a strong prayer warrior for others but also a strong prayer warrior for herself, with her husband Scott by her side. Cheryl has fought through surgeries, countless hospital stays, and many, many chemotherapy and radiation treatments. Through her long journey, her faith has remained strong.

Cheryl had a fun childhood. She learned to swim at the Wallops Island swimming pool with her family cheering her on. They went on family picnics on their way to Ocean City, MD. The greatest joy shared by the Hines family was camping all over the state of Virginia—especially the Shenandoah Valley—and Washington, DC.

As a teenager, Cheryl worked many jobs during the summer including at the ice cream shop, flower nursery, and Pappy’s Pizza at Four Corners. After graduating from Parksley High School in 1976, she followed her father’s footsteps and joined the Air Force (he even taught her how to play Cribbage so she could fit in with “the guys” at the base). She was stationed at Castle Air Force Base in Merced, CA, for four years. There she learned what real discipline was and became a sergeant and a very respected Airman among her peers. She proudly served her country from 1978 to 1982.

It was during her stay in Denver, CO, that she met the love of her life, Scott deBeaubien. Scott and his “Little Country Mouse” married in Denver on September 30, 2000, and he stayed by her side right until the very end. They spent many years ministering together. They moved to California in 2010, where Cheryl, true to her nature, was a caregiver for Scott’s mom until she passed away. In 2022, the two finally came back “home” to the Eastern Shore. Side-by-side, they were inseparable during the long nights after chemo treatments. The two played Cribbage, an old favorite from her Air Force days, during her many, many infusions. He finds great comfort in knowing she is in Heaven with her Lord.

Family was everything to Cheryl. Her beautiful blue eyes would light up whenever one of her grandchildren was around. She was a proud mother and would do anything in the world for her children. Cheryl instilled in the next generation all the thoughtfulness and kindness she was taught.

Cheryl was a very sensitive, empathetic, thoughtful person who loved helping others. People seemed to gravitate to her personality and beautiful smile. She never met a stranger and was always kind and loving to everyone. Cheryl loved to witness to others and share her faith in the Lord any chance she could. She found great joy in celebrating her faith with her church family at Covenant Church Chincoteague.

Cheryl is survived by her loving husband, Scott Robert deBeaubien, of Atlantic, VA; father, Donald Edward Hines (Mary Sue Ogburn) of Parksley, VA; children, Justin Langlois of Oregon, Jenica Langlois (Brad Knop) of Denver, CO, Alexander deBeaubien (Riley DeBeaubien) of San Diego, CA, and Talya Mollman (Alex Mollman) of Brighton, CO; siblings, Donna McCready (Billy McCready) of Assawoman, VA, and Mitchel Hines (Lynn Hines) of Greenbackville, VA; grandchildren, Remi deBeaubien and Frankie deBeaubien; sister-in-law, Toni Crichton (Rod); nieces and nephews, Ross McCready (Meg) and Brittany Fries (Matt); and lots of extended family and friends.

Cheryl was preceded in death by her mother, Beverly Marie Hines, and niece, Heather Fischer. As much as they will miss her here on Earth, her family is certain that she is dancing in Heaven with her Mom and Heather.

A Celebration of Life Service for Cheryl will be conducted Saturday, September 27, 2025, at 5:00 p.m., at Covenant Church Chincoteague, 4028 Main Street, Chincoteague, VA 23336, with Pastor Steven Liscum officiating.
