Harold Christopher “Chris” Ward died at Shore Health and Rehabilitation Center late Sunday night, November 3rd, 2024.
Chris was a devoted husband, stepfather, and grandfather. He assisted in the care of his parents all his life, even after becoming disabled by a back injury at work.
When his health would allow him to, there was nothing he liked better than going to Delmar or Georgetown to see dirt track racing. His racing interest came early. His dad rebuilt and worked on engines for Denston Racing at the old A & N Speedway. As it became harder for Chris to be mobile, he founded A & N Speedway Memories to share photos and stories with people who enjoyed the old racecourse.
As a young waterman, Chris decided having a home on Chesconnessex Creek would be ideal. He really enjoyed living there with his wife Marcy and faithful dog Choco.
Chris is survived by his wife Marcy; his stepdaughters, Heather Thornton-Powers and her husband, EJ, and April Woods and her husband, Jamie; and his grandchildren, Kaitlan Woods and Keagan Powers. Chris was predeceased by his parents, Mary Rose Ward and Leon Ward.
Per his wishes Chris will be cremated and there will be no public service.
Contributions in Chris’ memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 (https://stjude.org/donate) or to the Eastern Shore SPCA, PO Box 164, Onley, VA 23418 (www.shorespca.com).
