Dorothy Evans Obituary

Dorothy Louise Evans passed away peacefully at Commonwealth Senior Living at the Eastern Shore on Sunday, August 25, 2024. She was 96 years young. A native of Wachapreague, VA, the “Little City by the Sea” that she called home for 93 years, Dot was born February 24, 1928 to the late Harvey Lee and Elizabeth Thornton.

Known for her kind heart, sweet smile, and timeless beauty, Dot always made those around her feel at ease. She was an avid crafter and homemaker, but she was most proud to be Elwood’s sweetie. Dot enjoyed dining out, which was usually followed by a full day of shopping. She loved to dance, and would do so to any genre, but her favorites were Elvis and Tom Jones.  As a longtime member of Hollies Baptist Church, Dot was deeply committed to her faith and lived each day to share God’s love through her actions and words. She absolutely adored her family and friends, all of whom were a part of her daily life and cherished every moment they spent with her. She will be deeply missed by many.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 68 years, Elwood Lee Evans and her brothers, Monk and Joe Thornton.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her son, Ronald Dean Evans, Sr. and his girlfriend, Raydean Turlington, of Wachapreague; grandchildren, Michele Lynn Denton-Blake and her husband, Frank William Blake III, and Ronald Dean Evans, Jr. and his girlfriend, Marissa Custis, all of Pungoteague, VA, and Tara Dawn Bonniwell and her husband, Ryan Bonniwell, of Melfa, VA; great-grandchildren, Brandon Scott Parks, Amanda Elizabeth Denton-Klotz and husband Dylan, Kolby Dean Evans, Kayla Evans, Hunter Dawn Hall, Dustin Hall, and Damien Hall; great-great grandchildren, Marlaina Marie Parks, Cambrie Ann Poole, and Kendall John Klotz (to arrive in December); niece, Pat Smith and her husband, G.L.; and nephew, Tommy Smith and his girlfriend, Denise Rollins Gibby.

Funeral services will be conducted from the chapel of the Williams-Onancock Funeral Home on Wednesday, August 28, 2024 at 11:00 a.m., with The Reverend Steve Miller officiating. Private interment will be held at the Wachapreague Cemetery. There will be a visitation at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.

Dot’s family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff at Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital, Agape (Intrepid) Hospice, Williams Funeral Home, and Commonwealth Senior Living. Your care and compassion will never be forgotten.

Contributions in Dot’s memory may be made to Hollies Baptist Church, P.O. Box 7, Keller, VA 23401.
