Ella Mae Smullin, 86, wife of the late Willie Zona Smullin, passed away at her home in Bloxom, VA on Saturday, April 16, 2022, surrounded by her family. Born April 2, 1936 in Bloxom, she was the daughter of the late Garland Dewey Annis and Delia Taylor Annis.
Ella’s role as a wife and mother always came first. For many years she seamlessly maintained their household with six children, making a never-ending list of tasks look easy. After raising her children, her organizational talents served her well as the longtime cafeteria manager for Holly Farms. Ella enjoyed working in her flower garden, especially when all was in bloom and she could enjoy the fruits of her labor while watching the birds circle round. She loved listening to country music, which often played throughout her home. Ella adored her family and was happiest when surrounded by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and of course, her dog, “Tippy.”
She is survived by five children, Larry Smullin and his wife, Deborah, of Bloxom, Sandra Johnson and her husband, Thomas, Jr., of Deep Creek, VA, Linda Holden and her husband, Timothy, of Bloxom, Willie “Junior” Smullin and wife, Lea Ann, and Darlene Ayers and her husband, Chico, all of Nelsonia, VA; grandchildren, Brian and Jason Pruitt, Louis Lilliston, Jr., Michael Johnson, Christina Townsend, Tony Douglas, Shane Holden, Tanya Justice, and, Chris, Travis and Justin Smullin, as well as their spouses and twenty great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, Ella was predeceased by her daughter, Patricia Pruitt and her husband, Carroll, and grandson, Joshua Smullin.
Funeral services will be conducted from the chapel of the Williams-Parksley Funeral Home on Monday, April 18, 2022 at 3:00 p.m., with Pastor Sam Welch officiating. Interment will follow in the Parksley Cemetery. There will be a visitation at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
