Gene Mowrer

Mr. Eugene Lloyd “Gene” Mowrer, 77, husband of Marcie Mowrer and a resident of Greenbackville, VA, passed away Sunday, August 18, 2019 at Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital, in Onancock, VA. Born July 28, 1942 in Columbia, PA, he was the son of the late Second Lieutenant Eugene Lloyd Mowrer and Reba and William Studenroth.  

Gene graduated from Hempfield High School, in Landisville, PA, and received his bachelor’s degree from Susquehanna University. He worked in management for Sears, retiring after 30 years of dedicated service. Gene was an active volunteer for Boy Scouts of America throughout his son’s childhood and served as commodore of the Crystal Manor Boat Club for a decade. Over the years, Gene and Marcie traveled extensively, having visited every state, with the exception of Hawaii. In 2007, they relocated to the Eastern Shore to be closer to family and have enjoyed every opportunity to “overly love” their granddaughters. 

In addition to his loving wife of nearly 52 years, he is survived by his children, David W. Mowrer of Kenton, DE and Melissa Ann Freistat and husband Zachary of Greenbackville; brothers, Brian Studenroth and Craig Studenroth and wife Cheryl; sister, Valerie Eck and husband Chris; granddaughters, Skylar and Rubie Freistat; and several nieces and nephews. Other than his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Skylar Studenroth; and daughter-in-law, Mary McCarthy.

A memorial service will be held at Union United Methodist Church on Saturday, August 24, 2019 at 2:00 p.m., with The Reverend Barbara Parker officiating.
