Harry Founds Jr. Obituary

Harry Russell Founds Jr., 81, of Schooner Bay, passed away Monday, March 3, 2025, in Nassawadox, VA.
Born on February 3, 1944, in Wilmington, DE, Harry was the son of Harry Russell Founds Sr. and Alice Nielson Founds.

As a little boy, the family attended the Church of the Nazarene. Growing up, he quickly found his favorite place to be: the woods. Always a “Man of the Forest,” as his wife loved to call him, Harry was an avid deer hunter, occasional rabbit hunter, and perpetual fisherman when the weather warmed. A legend in his own time, Harry once fell two bucks with one single shot.

After high school, Harry went to college and received his bachelor’s degree and was soon hired at DuPont. A curious man, he found fulfillment in his career as a scientist, helping develop medicines and testing chemicals for the advancement of his fellow man. It was at DuPont that he met the love of his life, Charlotte Nurnberg Founds. The two met at work and soon became husband and wife. They were married for over 33 years.

Harry and Charlotte bought a lot in Schooner Bay in 1983 and moved down here in 1995. Always friendly and sociable, Harry made a lot of friends over the years. Those friends have been a blessing to Charlotte over the last few days. As the community mourns the loss of a dear husband, father, brother, and friend, they find solace knowing that he is no longer in pain and he’s up there in the great deer stand in the sky.

Harry is survived by his wife, Charlotte Nurnberg Founds, of Schooner Bay; children, Laurie Smith and Carrie Founds, both of DE; brother, Dean M. Founds of Delaware; several grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and extended family members; and dear friends, Josh Yunker and Mike Gonzalez.

He was predeceased by his parents, Harry Russell Founds Sr. and Alice Nielson Founds; sister, Dawn C. Founds; and dear friends, Victor Pruitt, Gene Crockett, and Benjy Nicolls.

A Celebration of Life will be planned for a future date.
