Jack Wayne Smith, Sr.

Mr. Jack Wayne Smith, husband of Kathryn Chandler Layne Smith and the late Beverly Bowers Smith and a resident of Nandua Heights, Onley, VA, formerly of Bloxom, VA, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 23, 2020 at the age of 80. Born November 8, 1939 in Locustville, VA, he was a son of the late Harvey Woodson Smith and Rose Helen Charnock Smith.

Jack was a proud veteran of the United States Army, having served his country for six years during the Vietnam war. Following honorable discharge, he returned to the Eastern Shore and began working as a foreman for Perdue Farms in Salisbury, MD, later transferring to the Accomac, VA plant, where he was a supervisor for many years. Over the last 30 years of his career in the poultry business, Jack owned and operated a poultry farm and drove a live haul truck for Tyson Foods. He loved the Lord and was a faithful member of Broadway Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife, Kathryn, he is survived by his children, Kimberly Patton and husband, David, of Fort Valley, VA, Jack Wayne Smith, Jr. and wife, Anna, of Quinby, VA, and Amory Musselwhite and husband, Ray, of Fayetteville, NC; stepchildren, Wanda Doughty of Onancock, VA and Douglas Layne and wife, Monica, of Franktown, VA and their families; grandchildren, Abigail and Isabel Musselwhite, and Chauncey and Aubrey Smith; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, Beverly, and his parents, he was predeceased by his six siblings, Helen Jones, Virginia Taylor and Harvey, Norman, Cecil, and Marvin “Pete” Smith. 

A private service will be conducted from the graveside at the Liberty Cemetery. In consideration of the limitations presented by the coronavirus outbreak, we encourage those who have a fond memory or story to share them with the family at www.williamsfuneralhomes.com.
