Mrs. Jean Shrieves Evans, age 90, wife of the late Richard L. Evans and a resident of Onley, VA, passed away on Wednesday, September 4, 2024, with her family at her side. Born May 30, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Asher Henry Shrieves and the late Elizabeth Doughty Shrieves. She was a member of Drummondtown Baptist Church and a former member of Onley Baptist Church.
Jean loved the Lord, family, reading, and handiwork. In earlier years, she was seldom found without a book and a cup of coffee close at hand. She was a waitress much of her earlier life and in later year managed the cafeteria at Accawmacke Elementary School. She taught Sunday school at Onley Baptist Church. She and her late husband, Richard, were avid campers.
Jean is survived by her four children, Tommy Killmon and his wife, Karen, of Watertown, WI, Charles Killmon and his wife, Darlene, of Melfa, VA, Richard Jeffery “R.J.” Evans and his wife, Linda, of Wake Forest, NC, and Becky Varmette and her husband, Bobby, of Franklin, VA; two sisters, Susan Taylor and her husband, Gerald, of Harrisonburg, VA, and Mary Asher Taylor of Gloucester, VA; brother, Henry Asher Shrieves, and his wife, Phylora, of Richmond, VA; seven grandchildren, Tyler Killmon, Scott Killmon, Krista Gillingham, Eric Killmon, Michelle Cobb, Jarad Varmette, and Autumn Evans; five great-grandchildren; and seven nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Jean was predeceased by her sister and brother-in-law, Eloise and L.C. Parks; brother-in-law, Robert Taylor; and great-grandson, Micah Gillingham.
There will be a viewing for family and friends on Monday, September 9, 2024, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., at Williams-Parksley Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held from the graveside at Edgehill Cemetery in Accomac, on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, at 11:00 a.m.
